I feel yah, had a similar experience with the release of Redfall at Arkane Austin. Game flipped, people saw it coming, we did a lot of new things we never done before, Studio closed down. Now I want to just make enough to keep making the next as well.
Fun writeup! I guess the point about the loner working for 8 years might be a bit lost because they were making games as a hobby. In that sense, the game not selling doesn't really matter, and the point was making the game they wanted to see.
